Torta(s) are my favorite dish to order at a good Mexican Taqueria. Most Mexican restaurants will not serve this dish among others. But if you should find a great taqueria that makes them, you will fall in love with this old time favorite.
Tortas pronounced:
A torta in English means cakes in Spanish. But it’s well known in taquerias a torta is this Mexican Cuisine Sandwich and is very popular. Torta(s) translates to cake in English however you cannot order a torta in a taqueria and expect a cake. To order a cake the word would be pastel. And to order this wonderful sandwich the word would be torta.
Now to make a torta, you can use any type of flat bread loaf, french bread, but preferly use a Bolillo (which means roll in English) bread found in Mexican taquerias if they should have a bakery or a Mexican Bakery, or HEB if they have them on hand. The best ones to buy are from a Mexican Bakery like the one’s shown. Go early because they sell out fast! Who knew, but they are most sought after on a weekend!
So here we go to some Food Therapy!
